Syllabus Mobile App
Overview
This is a concept for an app designed for college students that provides organizational tools, time management and resources for both mental and physical health.
The goal of this app is to help as many students as possible improve their college experience by offering tools to maximize success.
My Role: Solo designer through end-to-end process: discovery, design, usability, testing, prototyping. support through development

THE CHALLENGE
To create a mobile app that serves as a multipurpose tool to improve the college experience for students.
Statistics show that 79% of college students are increasingly having a more difficult time keeping up with academics, health, and well-being. These hardships are often caused by disorganization, anxiety, lack of time management skills, and much more.
USER RESEARCH
UNDERSTANDING THE USER
After some preliminary secondary research, I set out to discover some pain points that college students struggle with. I sent a survey out to 20 college students and conducted several interviews to discover what the most common struggles were.
KEY INSIGHTS
I took these top three pain points and created a chart with ideas on how to solve them. This helped me visualize how all of my ideas will work together moving forward. Next, I started bringing these ideas to life with wireframes and low-fidelity mockups.
WIREFRAMING & LOW-FIDELITY PROTOTYPING
The beginnings of bringing all of my research and solutions together visually. In these iterations I implemented my ideas above to see how they will work together as an overall experience.
LOW-FIDELITY TO HIGH-FIDELITY
Next in my process, I began to transform my low-Fidelity mockups into High-Fidelity mockups. During this process, accessibility and usability are in the front of my mind. I consider how to best cater to these users needs and think about how I could incorporate assistive technologies.
HIGH-FIDELITY MOCKUPS & PROTOTYPE
After refining my solutions through usability testing I ended up with these high-fidelity mockups and my final prototype.
TAKEAWAYS
I really enjoyed working on this project because I am a college student who has struggled with some of these challenges, with no convenient way to work through them. I conducted surveys to discover key insights these students were experiencing to narrow down the pain points that needed solutions. Then, by conducting usability testing and utilizing feedback, I was able to successfully solve these pain points.
I gained more confidence conducting usability studies.
I challenged my visual design skills and learned new techniques.
I spent more time on my preliminary research, which greatly improved my process and helped me understand the importance of research in all stages of the design process.
